Dwelling for Imaginary Civilization of Little People, 1998

Charles Simonds
Clay, adobe, paint

Known for his “art of ruins,” Charles Simonds created this piece in honor of arts writer Lucy Lippard, who donated her art collection to the museum. Due to wind, water and purposeful neglect, this sculpture will eventually become what it represents: the remains of an extinct civilization.
