The New Mexico Museum of Art offers volunteers a wide range of art-related projects in which they can help the paid staff. We are greatly indebted to our volunteers for the thousands of hours of service they donate each year. Opportunites to volunteer include:
Docents that have been trained by the Museum of Art offer tours:
- tours of the museum at 10:30 a.m. daily and 2:00 p.m. daily (except Friday)
- walking tours of public art in downtown Santa Fe on Mondays at 10:00am, April-November (weather permitting); Fridays, 10 a.m. June-August.
- tours of the museum to groups who schedule special tours.
Docents attend a 6-month training course and monthly education meetings. Docents typically volunteer 100 hours to the museum annually.
Education and Public Programs: The Museum engages visitors in a variety of public programs for all ages. Family Days, lectures, workshops, and special events activate the museum and we welcome volunteers who enjoy working with the public and are willing to help prepare for events including art making and light catering. We welcome volunteers who are interested in developing and writing educational materials, assisting with outreach and interpretive materials for in and outside of the museum.
Research: Use the museum's archives and library, as well as other resources, to develop educational materials and guides for exhibits, public programs, and tours.
Visitor Experience: Develop and carry out visitor surveys, data entry and analysis. Input, organize, and disseminate visitor comments and feedback.
Communications and Marketing: Assist staff in promoting the visibility for the Museum’s programs, educational opportunities and exhibitions. Volunteers who are knowledgeable about social media, calendar listings and innovative promotional marketing that doesn’t require paying for advertising are desirable and hours for volunteering are flexible.
