Art History Lecture

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2
Dance and American Art: A Long Embrace
5:30 pm

In this lecture, art historian Sharyn Udall draws attention to the ways that artists' portrayals of dance have defined the visual character of the modern world.  Many icons of American visual arts -- Winslow Homer, James McNeill Whistler, Alexander Calder, Joseph Cornell and Edward Steichen -- have portrayed dance and dancers from the anonymous to the famous -- Anna Pavlova, Isadora Duncan, Josephine Baker, and Martha Graham --- to illustrate new ideas about space, pattern, and motion.

5:30 to 6:30 p.m.  St. Francis Auditorium.

Book signing to follow.  Free.
