Cloudscapes: Photographs from the Collection

On display Jan 14, 2011 - May 15, 2011

This selection of pictures from the museum's permanent collection represents some of the treasures that spend much of their time in storage due to the light sensitivity of photographs. Many are from the mid-twenthieth century, a period of strength in the photgraphy collection, while others are more recent. Cloudscapes: Photographs from the Collection, opening Feb. 4, features work by some of the masters of the medium, including Alfred Stieglitz, Paul Strand, Laura Gilpin, Eliot Porter, and Edward Weston. Also featured more recent images by Paul Caponigro, William Clift, Robert and Shana ParkeHarrison, and Jim Stone. Listing of the complete contents>

Clouds do seem to bring out the poet and the philosopher in people. Artists have long been attracted to New Mexico's spectacular variety of clouds, a result of the state's unique topography and wealth of mountains.
