                    [post_content] => <p>Gustave Baumann first came to New Mexico in 1918 and has since become one of the most beloved artists and cultural figures in Santa Fe. Best known for his enchanting woodblock prints, Baumann was a prodigious artist and creative who left behind an enormous legacy that also included painting, sculpture, drawing, marionettes, and furniture.</p> <p><em>Gustave Baumann: The Artist&rsquo;s Environment</em>&nbsp;will provide a comprehensive study of Baumann&rsquo;s artistic output and offer a close look at how he engaged the physical, cultural, and artistic environment in which he worked.                     [post_content] => Gustave Baumann, best known for his color woodblock prints, became one of Santa Fe’s best known artists and cultural figures after moving here in 1918. Join us for a FREE Community Day celebrating our exhibition <em>Gustave Baumann: The Artist’s Environment</em>. This celebration will feature Baumann-inspired art activities, performances, and guided tours. The Library and Archives will host an open house for visitors to view items from the Baumann Collection and the Women's Board will host a reception with light refreshments.

Our FREE community day will occur silmatenously with Santa Fe Indian Market.  After exploring the market, you may find yourself inspired to create something. When this happens, come visit the New Mexico Museum of Art Create Station at the corner of Lincoln Ave and Palace Ave on the side of the museum. We’ll have guided art activities and basic art supplies for artists of all ages! Please join us and our friends from other Department of Cultural Affairs museums for a relaxing art break!

The artist, who is based in Hanoi, Vietnam, has used travel as a major source of inspiration, shaping her works into many different directions. By using Vietnamese Zo paper, Japanese Washi paper, Chinese ink brushes and LED light to explore and modify temporary spaces, Vu combines the imaginative concept of the city with meticulous craftmanship using traditional materials. &ldquo;My works reflects the relationship between myself and the surrounding environment,&rdquo; she writes, &ldquo;and that relationship always changed through moving, traveling, encountering new cultures, and being fascinated by architectural forms of different local landscapes.&rdquo;</p> <p>Thu Kim Vu&rsquo;s works were mainly influenced by Japanese culture through her last four artist residencies at Kamiyama Artists in Residence program (2012), Mino Paper Art Village (2013), Sapporo Artist in Residence Program (2014) and Fukuoka Asian Art Museum (2018). Thu Kim Vu earned her B.F.A. from Hanoi University of Fine Art, Vietnam and her M.F.A from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago.</p> <p>Registration is required.                     [post_content] => Frederick Hammersley Artist-in-Residence Thu Kim Vu will lead this workshop based on principles that she explores in her artistic practice. Participants will build a lampshade using different techniques of wire frame construction, paper cutting, drawing, folding and interacting with lighting. The workshop is not just about how to make a lamp, but a way to visualize how to build a light sculpture from an LED light bulb in which each individual can develop their own imagination, characteristics, and personal style with funky shapes, colors, and narrative stories.             [post_content] => <p>Gustave Baumann first came to New Mexico in 1918 and has since become one of the most beloved artists and cultural figures in Santa Fe. Best known for his enchanting woodblock prints, Baumann was a prodigious artist and creative who left behind an enormous legacy that also included painting, sculpture, drawing, marionettes, and furniture.</p> <p><em>Gustave Baumann: The Artist&rsquo;s Environment</em>&nbsp;will provide a comprehensive study of Baumann&rsquo;s artistic output and offer a close look at how he engaged the physical, cultural, and artistic environment in which he worked.                     [post_content] => Gustave Baumann, best known for his color woodblock prints, became one of Santa Fe’s best known artists and cultural figures after moving here in 1918. Join us for a FREE Community Day celebrating our exhibition <em>Gustave Baumann: The Artist’s Environment</em>. This celebration will feature Baumann-inspired art activities, performances, and guided tours. The Library and Archives will host an open house for visitors to view items from the Baumann Collection and the Women's Board will host a reception with light refreshments.

Our FREE community day will occur silmatenously with Santa Fe Indian Market.  After exploring the market, you may find yourself inspired to create something. When this happens, come visit the New Mexico Museum of Art Create Station at the corner of Lincoln Ave and Palace Ave on the side of the museum. We’ll have guided art activities and basic art supplies for artists of all ages! Please join us and our friends from other Department of Cultural Affairs museums for a relaxing art break!

The artist, who is based in Hanoi, Vietnam, has used travel as a major source of inspiration, shaping her works into many different directions. By using Vietnamese Zo paper, Japanese Washi paper, Chinese ink brushes and LED light to explore and modify temporary spaces, Vu combines the imaginative concept of the city with meticulous craftmanship using traditional materials. &ldquo;My works reflects the relationship between myself and the surrounding environment,&rdquo; she writes, &ldquo;and that relationship always changed through moving, traveling, encountering new cultures, and being fascinated by architectural forms of different local landscapes.&rdquo;</p> <p>Thu Kim Vu&rsquo;s works were mainly influenced by Japanese culture through her last four artist residencies at Kamiyama Artists in Residence program (2012), Mino Paper Art Village (2013), Sapporo Artist in Residence Program (2014) and Fukuoka Asian Art Museum (2018).                     [post_content] => Frederick Hammersley Artist-in-Residence Thu Kim Vu will lead this workshop based on principles that she explores in her artistic practice. Participants will build a lampshade using different techniques of wire frame construction, paper cutting, drawing, folding and interacting with lighting. The workshop is not just about how to make a lamp, but a way to visualize how to build a light sculpture from an LED light bulb in which each individual can develop their own imagination, characteristics, and personal style with funky shapes, colors, and narrative stories. Our next book club meeting will be Noon, Sunday September 7, at the Vladem Contemporary.  We will be discussing Susan Magsamen and Ivy Ross’ book <em>Your Brain on Art: How the Arts Transform Us.</em>

            [post_content] => <p>Gustave Baumann first came to New Mexico in 1918 and has since become one of the most beloved artists and cultural figures in Santa Fe. Best known for his enchanting woodblock prints, Baumann was a prodigious artist and creative who left behind an enormous legacy that also included painting, sculpture, drawing, marionettes, and furniture.</p> <p><em>Gustave Baumann: The Artist&rsquo;s Environment</em>&nbsp;will provide a comprehensive study of Baumann&rsquo;s artistic output and offer a close look at how he engaged the physical, cultural, and artistic environment in which he worked. Surveying all periods of his artistic career, and organized thematically, this exhibition will critically examine key concepts at play in Baumann&rsquo;s artwork through a variety of lenses.</p> <p>On August 15, 2025, the New Wing Gallery opens as the second stage of the Baumann Exhibition.&nbsp;</p> <p class="MsoNormal">Gustave Baumann, <em>Day of the Deer Dance</em>, 1918, tempera on paper, 19 3/4 x 21 9/16 in.
