Book Signing and Artist Talk with Virgil Ortiz

Join us on Friday, August 28, from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. for a conversation with Virgil Ortiz (American, Cochiti Pueblo, b. 1969) and Marisa Sage, Executive Director at the New Mexico School for the Arts, Zane Bennett Gathering Space, 500 Montezuma Ave, Santa Fe.

Admission is free, with free parking available in the New Mexico School for the Arts’ parking lot on Montezuma Ave.

Prior to the talk, join Ortiz for a book signing in the George Duncan and Sheryl Kelsey Shop at New Mexico Museum of Art Vladem Contemporary from 5:00 – 5:45 p.m. VIRGIL ORTIZ reVOlution will be available for purchase.

For more than two decades, Ortiz has developed Revolt 1680/2180, an expansive project that has brought global attention to Po’pay, the Tewa leader who led the Pueblo Revolt of 1680 against Spanish occupation. At this talk, Ortiz will discuss the project’s most recent iteration, Continuum: Blindfall, First Strike, on view at New Mexico Museum of Art Vladem Contemporary through October 18, 2026. The exhibition, developed with co-curator Eric F. Garcia, traces Pueblo and Spanish legacies weaving, colliding, and transforming through clay, imagery, and form, treating 1680 not as history to look back on but as a living force projected toward the future year 2180.
