New Mexico Archives Bazaar

The New Mexico Archives Bazaar is a free, fun, and educational event that brings visitors face to face with fascinating historical materials from thirteen archival repositories in northern and central New Mexico. The event will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, 10am-2pm at the New Mexico State Records Center and Archives. Organized by the New Mexico Library Association’s Archives & Archivists Special Interest Group, the Bazaar will feature rare and unique documents, photographs, maps, publications, and more.

This year’s theme, Archives at the Crossroads: New Mexico and America’s 250^th, celebrates New Mexico’s unique history and culture, including the centennial of Route 66. Participating institutions include the New Mexico State Records Center and Archives; the Center for Southwest Research at the University of New Mexico; the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum; the New Mexico Museum of Art; the New Mexico History Museum; the Institute of American Indian Arts; the UNM Health Sciences Library; the International Folk Art Museum; the Albuquerque Museum; the National Park Service; the Supreme Court Law Library; the New Mexico Military Museum; the New Mexico Museum of Art; New Mexico Highlands University; and the New Mexico State Library.

Archivists, librarians, and museum curators will discuss and answer questions about archives, regional history, and the preservation of original documents. This event also includes a talk, Celebrating a (R)Evolution: Historical Research and Archives, by Dr. Rick Hendricks, State Records Administrator and former New Mexico State Historian.
