Final Friday: Off-Center Artist Talk with Luis Tapia

Join us for the first of many talks starting with acclaimed wood carver Luis Tapia, as part of the exhibition Off-Center: New Mexico Art 1970-2000. This exhibition features a wide array of New Mexican artists who shaped contemporary art during this important time period.

THIS IS A FREE EVENT!

Luis Tapia has spent over 50 years reinterpreting Catholic devotional art in New Mexico as a modern form of cultural and social commentary. Tapia’s extraordinary works explore the complexity of Latino/Hispano/Chicano identity, history, and contemporary culture, offering compelling insights and challenging perspectives. Rooted in a seventeenth-century folk art tradition, his vibrant sculptures honor their origins while illuminating social, political, and religious issues of today with brilliant color and intricate detail. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from an artist who brings profound, playful, and provocative visual effects to life.

This program is made possible by Pat and Jim Hall.
