We invite you to go behind the scenes at our Plaza Building with Assistant Curator Katie C. Doyle to for a deep dive into facets of the Museum’s rich holdings. This tour of the collection will feature the Museum’s collection of Beatrice Wood ceramics, drawings, and watercolors.
Beatrice Wood was closely associated with the Dada art movement in the United States. In 1917, together with Marcel Duchamp and Henri-Pierre Roche, she founded The Blind Man and Rongwrong, U.S. based Dadaist art journals. Born into a San Francisco family of socialites, Wood’s early interest in pursuing the arts was met with resistance from her family. Her rebellious spirit and interests in modernism, folk art, Dadaism, and Eastern philosophy all became influences in her artwork.
